Playa de Las Americas is known as the party capital of the Canary Islands so it has a big reputation. If you’re after a bit of sun, sea and sand with a legendary bar and club scene, this lively resort definitely has what you’re looking for and more!
After a busy night on the strip, there’s nothing better than taking it easy on a sun-kissed beach. Troya Beach is one of the best in the area for sun worshipping (don’t forget your sun cream!) and people watching. If you can stomach it, there’s a good selection of water sports on offer including banana boats and parasailing.
You’ve got to visit Siam Park when you go to Playa de Las Americas, forget waterpark, it’s more like a water kingdom! The main slide, the Tower of Power, is not for the faint hearted. Nothing will prepare you for the adrenaline rush of speeding down this 28m high, almost vertical drop slide.
Playa de Las Americas is perfect for a messy week or two, its streets are lined from top to bottom with bars and clubs. It’s also the home of cabaret and karaoke so whether you want to be the one in the spotlight or prefer to join in from your seat, you’ll have hours of fun here.
Veronicas Strip is by far the liveliest area, especially in July and August. You’ll know when you’ve reached it as the whole street has a permanent glow from the bright neon-lit signs of bars and clubs, and music blasting out from every direction. You can expect people dancing and singing in the street as they make their way around this infamous street.
Starcos is just up the road from the Veronicas Strip, everyone raves about its legendary clubs as they have only the best international DJs play during the summer. If you’re after somewhere a little bit quieter but still up there with the rest of them, you’ll want to head for The Patch. As well as great bars, it also has many restaurants to grab a bite to eat before a big night on the strip.
Playa de Las Americas is hot but it gets even hotter during August when the Arona Summer Festival comes to town. It’s the Canary Islands’ top EDM festival and turns the Olympic Stadium into one huge rave with amazing live acts and DJs. It has only the best names with the likes of Alesso, Avicii, David Guetta and Rudimental all playing before, it’s set the bar pretty high! You’ll be pulling an all-nighter at this one as it starts in the late afternoon and doesn’t stop until at least 5am!
Experience some true Spanish flavour and join in with a fiesta. They’re just one huge celebration, full of people dancing to the sounds of soft guitars and castanets, wearing fantastic colourful costumes. They give you a chance to sample some authentic dishes as there are loads of food stalls set up just for the occasion, you have to try the tasty Tapas on offer.
